Pilates Class for Mom and Baby! Mama-Latesis a pilates style fitness class that you can do WITH your baby.Pregnancy is hard on the body and caring for a new baby adds a new element of strain.Repetitive motions, such as lifting out of the crib, carrying a heavy car seat, and just holding your baby can wreak havoc on your body.The Mama-Lates exercise program targets key muscles to give your body the chance to heal and return to its pre-pregnancy state.Unlike other fitness classes, Mama-Lates incorporates your child.Having your baby participate in class will strengthen their sensory experience as well as aid in their development.Mama-Lates will offer a fun but challenging workout where you can spend quality time with your baby and begin the process of getting your body back! Key goals of this class are to: ·strengthen the body’s core muscles ·improve flexibility ·improve postural awareness ·bond with your baby ·provide an environment of positive sensory stimulation for baby ·have fun and connect with other moms and dads Class participants: This class is best suited for babies 6 weeks to pre-crawling. If you have had a cesarean section you should not start exercising until at least 8 weeks. Please consult with your doctor before beginning this or any exercise program. The instructor: Shawna Crescenzo MSPT, OCS, CPI Shawna Crescenzo is a pilates certified physical therapist.She graduated from Columbia University in 2002 with a masters in physical therapy and has been treating clients in outpatient orthopedics for the past nine years.A long time Pilates enthusiast herself, Shawna became certified in Pilates through the Professional Health and Fitness Institute in 2007.Pilates has been an important tool for Shawna in rehabilitating and educating her patients.As a mother of two young children, Mama-lates has become a passion of Shawna’s and has helped strike a wonderful balance between family and life demands. *Please wear comfortable clothes and bring your own exercise mat.A beach towel will do!For baby bring an extra blanket or two.If you own a baby carrier you may enjoy using it during the standing exercises, however, it is not necessary.
Mama-Lates is not your typical exercise class. You will feel an awakening of key muscles and improved flexibility of overworked postural muscles. With Mama-Lates you will take the crucial step towards taking care of yourself and as a result be able to take better care of your family!
